cannes cannes cannes

I know my Cannes coverage is a little late, but after the God awful fashion at the Met this year, I’m especially relieved to see so many gorgeous confections at the french film festival. As usual, I’m salivating over the fashions of one Ms. Diane Kruger, but she’s not the only attendant that stunned on the red carpet. Isabelle Huppert was resplendent in Armani Privé, Chanel and Louis Vuitton. Asia Argento was heralded as the "Queen of Couture" in Armani Privé, And Rachel Weisz did her very best to erase her Met Gala debacle with gorgeous green Valentino and Dior. Some of my favorites (since I'm on the road I'm just posting these all at once, so prepare for the longest post ever):

Diane Kruger in Chanel

Diane Kruger in Jason Wu

l'economie, je deteste!

It's been an especially bad couple of weeks in fashion news. i-D went down to six issues a year. Emma Cook and Veronique Branquinho folded. And now Christian Lacroix has officially declared bankruptcy, and who knows what will happen with the upcoming couture shows? It's not couture without Lacroix, and right now, it's not looking good for the master coutourier. I am so very very sad, yet still kind of want to justify buying a pair of black caged liquid leggings. Are my priorities a little out of order? Yes. Yes, they are. But look at them.

Tomorrow, manfriend and I are heading out on the road trip to end all road trips. Destination: Dollywood. With a few stops to visit friends and family in Chicago, St. Louis, and (sigh) South Bend, while hoofing it between Minneapolis and Pigeon Forge, TN, there might not be too much time for blogging.

In the meantime, I leave you with Sasha Pivovarova's awesome wedding pictures from the June issue of American Vogue.

it's summer, bitches

I cannot believe that Gwyneth forgot to consult with my friends and me when compiling her summer Party Jams list. Shame on you Gwynnie. For those of you not following her weekly newsletters, Ms. Paltrow has been sharing her valuable insights to, um, "nourish the inner aspect" on her blog GOOP. The Fug Girls describe its addictive nature best. I'm so in love with it that I've been considering starting another blog called BOOP, within which I will share helpful tips like, "Don't feel like cooking? Try eating out!" But I digress. Since GP failed to contact any Minneapolis notables for their summer playlists, I thought I'd share a few here. Take that, William Orbit and the DJ from Charlie's Angels.

pulp fiction

i heart mimosas, i mean winona

I always dig the covers of British Elle, and the July 2009 subscriber cover is no exception. Winona Ryder looks gorgeous and pixie-like as ever. Her recent comeback seems to have lost some of its steam over the past few years (Sex and Death 101, the follow up from Heathers writer Daniel Waters that no one saw, same with The Darwin Awards—though she did have some hits with A Scanner Darkly and The Ten), but after her turn in Star Trek and her upcoming supporting role in The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, I’m hoping we’ll be seeing more of her. I’m sure she’s relieved to play different characters and no longer be the Reality Bites Gen X icon, but I’ll always be nostalgic for her Lydia Deetz and Veronica Sawyer.

A few of my favorite Elle UK covers:

Chloë Sevigny

Karolina Kurkova

Gwyneth Paltrow

Alexa Chung

Reese Witherspoon

Kylie Minogue

Jennifer Aniston

The make-up touch-up free cover shots from French Elle:

Monica Bellucci, Eva Herzigova, Sophie Marceau
