the cfda's: lovely ladies

Doo-Ri Chung in a look from her Fall 2008 Collection for Doo.Ri. I love that she paired a classic cocktail dress with relaxed hair, a statement necklace and playful platforms. Very appropriate for such a successful young lady.

Accessories Designer of the Year Tory Burch, in her own design, took a hot pink gown and a statement necklace and made the combination seem totally wearable. It's refreshing to see Burch, whose designs can often feel a bit "ladies who lunch," wearing something so bright and youthful.

Ashley Olsen played tribute to Yves Saint Laurent "Le Smoking" in Calvin Klein Collection. I love a slim trouser, but the shift towards wide-leg, tapered, structured pants has been an enjoyable change of pace. They're not for everyone, so if you're feeling bitter about the shift, blame Nicolas Ghesquiere. The resurgence of this cut can be traced back to the jodhpurs he showed in his Fall 2007 Ready-to-Wear Collection for Balenciaga.

Erin Fetherston looked modern and romantic in her own design. I'd wear this gown dressed down with a long, cozy, gray cardigan. I adore Fetherston's signature blunt cut bangs and shoulder length locks. She reminds me of a reverse Emily the Strange.
