Hellboy 2: The Golden Army surpassed box office expectations coming in at No. 1 with $35.9 million for its opening weekend. Both a commercial and critical success (88% on Rotten Tomatoes), the sequel has the potential to lead new viewers back to the first film, while expanding interest in the comic book source material.
